Founded in 1978, SpiriTrust Lutheran™ Home Care & Hospice, Inc. is a not-for-profit, faith-based provider of home health care, home health telemonitoring, hospice, in-home support and grief support services throughout south central and northeastern Pennsylvania and northern Maryland. We are a name you can trust.
SpiriTrust Lutheran™ Home Care & Hospice has a rich tradition of caring for older adults that began in the late 1970s. At that time, Lutheran Social Services (LSS) was only providing homemaker services in Franklin County, PA for the Office of Aging. But the organization quickly expanded. Skilled home health services were added in 1978 and hospice opened in 1980.
Karen Rohaly was the agency's first administrator. Under her dedication and guidance, a license agreement made it possible for the agency to cross the border and offer home health services in Maryland beginning in 1983. That was followed by an office opening in Gettysburg in 1984.
Tragically, on May 9, 1987, Karen Rohaly was killed in a bicycle-car accident. It was a huge loss for the agency. The agency nominated her for the National Association of Home Care Administrator of the Year Award and it was presented to her son at the NAHC Annual Meeting in Washington DC that fall.
In 1992, the decision was made to separate the agency from LSS and create a new corporation called, Lutheran Home Care Services, Inc. Since that time, the agency has continued to grow and evolve. We have expanded our programs and services, as well as the geographic area we serve. Today, we serve clients in 17 counties in south central and northeastern Pennsylvania and in northern Maryland. The agency's staff continues Karen's mission.
We answer Christ's call by providing health care and related services to those who are striving to achieve their highest quality of life, health, and comfort.
We empower families to engage in life.
