Camp Evergreen is a weekend long camp for children between the ages of 6 and 16 years who have experienced a recent death of a loved one within their family/community circle. The camp is designed to mix traditional camp activities with others that are geared to help strengthen campers’ coping skills. The children can gather together in a safe, peer-to-peer environment and learn new ways of expressing their feelings. Our professional staff and trained volunteers provide craft and physical activities including games which enable children to acquire appropriate ways to cope with their loss and grief.

Chaplains and social workers experienced in working with grieving children, along with specially trained volunteers, supervise and oversee all activities at camp. (Note: All staff and volunteers undergo background checks and Child Abuse clearances to ensure the safety of all children.) Registered nurses will be available on site at all times to dispense medications and respond to medical problems that may arise. Camp Fowler's professional camp counselors provide instructions, safety lessons and accompany the campers through a challenge course built primarily for children of this age group.

Camp Evergreen is offered FREE of charge and will be held Saturday July 29 through Sunday, July 30, 2017 at Camp Fowler in Orefield, PA.  Check out the camp facilities by visiting http://www.valleyyouthhouse.org/CampFowler-Valley-Youth-House.html.  The campers stay in cabins with bunk beds. There is a shower house, dining hall, swimming pool, basketball courts, baseball field and hiking trails in addition to the Challenge Course.

Camp registration begins Saturday, July 29th from 8:30-9:00 am. Closing ceremonies include lunch on Sunday, July 30th. We ask family members to arrive by 1:30 p.m. on Sunday to pick up their campers.

Camp space is available on a first come, first served basis. Each registration will be reviewed and may include an interview before the application process is completed and the applicant accepted.

Volunteers are always needed! Our trained volunteers are a wonderful blessing to our staff and campers, and we welcome their special skills and talents. There are several options for volunteering at Camp Evergreen:

  • Arts and Crafts Activities: Assist with craft projects and craft activities
  • Cabin volunteer: Orient campus to cabin life and assist through the camp weekend. Cabin volunteers must be present the entire weekend of camp.
  • General Assistance: Help with camp activities, setting up camp prior to arrival of campers and taking down camp after campers depart, where needed.

Please contact us if you are interested in volunteering.
